Kim Young-mi

Kim Young-mi0Kim Young-mi, a professional mountaineer, became the first South Korean to complete a solo traverse of Antarctica. She started from Hercules Inlet on Nov. 8, 2024, and finished her 1,700-km journey on Jan. 17, 2025, after 69 days. Battling temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius, she pulled a 100-kg sled across the icy terrain.

This journey was the final stage of her “three-stage project,” which included crossing Lake Baikal in 2017 and reaching the South Pole solo in 2023. A record-breaking climber, Kim continues to inspire explorers worldwide.
