Seoul has opened the Namsan Sky Forest Trail, a 1.45-kilometer barrier-free walkway connecting the Namsan Fitness Center to the Namsan Library. The new trail allows anyone, including seniors, children, and people with limited mobility, to enjoy a safe and comfortable walk through the heart of the city.
The project is the first joint forestry initiative between the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Forest Service. Seoul funded the construction while the Forest Service provided national forest land. Eco-friendly methods were used to minimize tree damage, and small tunnels were built beneath the trail for wildlife to move safely.
Along the route are several scenic viewpoints, rest areas, and small gardens where visitors can relax and enjoy views of both the forest and the city skyline. Benches and shaded spots provide spaces to rest, while observation decks offer wide views of Seoul’s landscape.
Around the trail, 400 pine trees were newly planted, and damaged trees were reused as “eco-hotels” for insects and small animals. Seoul officials said the new trail improves access to Namsan while protecting its natural environment and aims to make the mountain a peaceful green space open to everyone.
