Her family confirmed she died of pneumonia on Oct. 11 and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support. “The Keaton family is very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane,” they said in a statement to People. They added that Keaton loved animals and supported the unhoused, encouraging donations to local animal shelters or food banks in her memory.

Keaton rose to fame in “The Godfather” films and won an Academy Award for best actress for her role in 1977’s “Annie Hall,” which also cemented her signature menswear-inspired style. Her career spanned more than five decades, with standout roles in “Baby Boom,” “The First Wives Club,” and “Something’s Gotta Give.”

A trailblazer who redefined women’s roles in Hollywood, she is remembered by her fellow stars as a funny, kind, and talented person.

Keaton is survived by her two adopted children, Dexter and Duke.
