GS25’s ‘Eolbaksa’ Tops Drink Sales in Just 2 Months0GS25 said its new beverage mix, “Eolbaksa” ? short for “Ice Bac Cider” ? has sold more than 2.5 million cans in just two months of its debut, making it the convenience store chain’s best-selling drink. The product, released on June 25, combines an energy tonic and a lemon-lime soda into one ready-to-drink can.

South Korea’s beverage market has long been dominated by established brands such as Pocari Sweat and Coca-Cola, leaving little room for new products to break through. Yet Eolbaksa has broken through, fueled by its affordability and novelty.

Previously, customers had to purchase the ingredients ? Bacchus, Chilsung Cider, and an ice cup ? separately. By packaging them together, GS25 said the drink can cost up to 32% less than buying each item alone.

Sales have surged since the start of the fall semester. From Sept. 1 to 7, Eolbaksa sales at 120 GS25 locations near universities rose nearly 198% compared with the same week in August.

Yu Jae-hyung, head of GS Retail’s beverage team, said the drink’s explosive popularity suggests it is already becoming one of the chain’s staple products.
