Wealth Ranks as Top Source of Happiness for Korean Teens0More than half of Korean teenagers say wealth is the most crucial factor for happiness, ranking it above family, friends, and hobbies, according to a new national survey by 20slab.

The poll of middle and high school students found that 52.1% of respondents named money as the key to happiness. Parents followed at 39.5%, and close friends came in third at 34.6%.

The data also revealed that family income and academic performance influenced teens’ expectations for upward mobility. Teens from wealthier households were more likely to believe they would enter the upper class by age 30. Students with higher grades shared this confidence.

When asked about future careers outside of a traditional college path, 42.3% said they wanted to start their own business, and 36.9% hoped to become influencers. Interest in both career paths increased among teens from high-income families or those with strong academic records.

Researchers say the findings reflect growing economic anxiety among youth. For many, financial success is seen not just as a goal, but as a necessity for a meaningful life. The results suggest that money, not relationships, may now shape teens’ vision of success.
