Japan holds the record for the highest internet speed ever recorded, reaching an astounding 402 terabits per second. To put that into perspective, a typical home internet speed is around 100 megabits per second. A terabit is 1,000 times faster than a gigabit and a million times faster than a megabit, making Japan’s speed record far beyond what most people experience today.

The world record was set by researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) last year. Using a special fiber-optic cable with four cores, the team was able to transmit data over a distance of 50 kilometers. At that incredible speed, it would take just one second to download over 50,000 movies.

The achievement demonstrates the potential for much faster networks in the future, which could improve online communication, gaming, and file sharing.

Japan’s record-breaking experiment shows how rapidly internet technology is advancing. Although this technology is still in the early stages, it’s a step toward a much faster digital world in the coming years.
