Sea Level Is Rising Around Korea

Sea Level Is Rising Around Korea0Scientists say the sea levels around South Korea have been rising in the past 30 years. From 1989 to 2024, the sea rose about 11.5 centimeters. That is roughly equal to the sea rising 3 millimeters each year.
The rise is not the same everywhere. The West Sea and East Sea increased faster than the South Sea.
In some years, especially in the late 1990s and recent times, the water rose more quickly. Experts say global warming plays a role.
Warmer oceans expand, and melting ice adds water.
Careful planning is needed to protect coastal communities in the future.
