Chaturanga, the Game That Gave Rise to Chess

Chaturanga, the Game That Gave Rise to Chess0The origin of chess can be traced back to sixth-century India with a game called Chaturanga. The pieces were slightly different from what we’re used to seeing today, with a king, minister, elephant, chariot, horse, and foot soldier. The game traveled to Persia and the Arabic world, where the rules slowly changed, and eventually reached Europe. There, during the late Middle Ages, it became closer to the version we know today, with new pieces, rules, and a much faster style of play.
