On Aug. 11, the U.S. Mint released a quarter honoring activist Stacey Park Milbern, making her the first Korean American to appear on U.S. currency. Born to an American soldier and a Korean mother, Milbern was diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease. As a teenager, she championed disability rights and helped add disability history to schools in North Carolina. She continued to work for disability and racial justice, even serving on a presidential committee in 2014. In 2020, despite battling cancer, she still helped people in need. Milbern died at the age of 33, leaving a lasting legacy.
