NASA’s Lucy spacecraft flew close to an asteroid named Donaldjohanson on April 20. The asteroid looks like two ice cream cones stuck together!
Lucy flew about 960 kilometers from the asteroid and took pictures. Scientists were surprised by the asteroid’s strange shape.
It is about 8 kilometers long and 3.5 kilometers wide. Lucy will send more pictures soon. This trip helped NASA practice for a bigger mission in 2027. Lucy’s job is to learn how space rocks helped make the planets.
The pictures and data from Lucy help scientists learn more about our solar system’s history.
