Polar Night

Polar Night0During the winter in the far north and south, the Sun does not rise for many days or weeks. This period is called a “polar night.” In the Arctic and Antarctica Circles, people experience this long night because the Earth tilts away from the Sun.

Polar night happens every year. In the North Pole, polar nights can last for about six months! Animals like polar bears and reindeer are used to long nights and have ways to stay warm.

People in these regions bundle up to stay warm during polar nights. Polar nights are a part of life at the top and bottom of the Earth.
