The North Pole is the northernmost point on Earth. It is in the middle of the Arctic Ocean on waters covered by sea ice. There are no penguins at the North Pole, but there are polar bears, seals, and snowy owls.
The South Pole is the southernmost point on Earth. It is on a frozen continent called Antarctica. Penguins live there, but there are no polar bears!
The South Pole is colder than the North Pole because water cools and warms slower than land. It also lies on the highest continent. The higher you go, the colder it gets.
