Charles Goodyear

Charles Goodyear0Charles Goodyear was an American inventor renowned for inventing the vulcanization process that enabled the commercial use of rubber. After his father’s hardware business went bankrupt in 1830, Goodyear sought to improve natural rubber’s properties. He worked with Nathaniel M. Hayward, who discovered that sulfur-treated rubber wasn’t sticky. Goodyear accidentally discovered vulcanization in 1839 by dropping a rubber-sulfur mix on a hot stove. Despite securing a patent in 1844, he faced many legal battles. He died in 1860, leaving behind a significant legacy.
