About the Big Dipper

About the Big Dipper0The Big Dipper is a group of seven bright stars lying within the Ursa Major constellation. It gets its name from its distinctive shape in the night sky. Four stars create a rhombus, which looks like a bowl, while the remaining three form the handle. Together, the seven stars look like a dipper.

But why is it called the “Big” Dipper? Because it has a smaller, nearly identical sibling called the Little Dipper.
